In the north of China, there is an ethnicity that lives on fishing and hunting – The Hezhe People like to eat fish and are good at tanning the fish skin. As they like wearing clothes made of fish skins, the Hezhe people are also known as the “fish skin tribe”. For thousands of years, they have lived by the mountains and water, harnessing what nature has bestowed upon human beings, and developed a fish-skin culture that is full of regional characteristics. The traditional technique of clothes-making with fish skins has stretched down after thousands of years and become one intangible cultural heritage. Fishing, de-skinning, drying and a series of complex and tedious procedures are the unique skills of the Hezhe people that embody their brilliant culture, for they have witnessed the historical development of the ethnic group and made it known across the country.
